Lazzarini: Children and youth in East Jerusalem are deprived of their right to education
New York, February 18 (Hibya) - The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, announced that Israeli forces and Jerusalem Municipality personnel forcibly entered the UNRWA Kalandia Educational Center and ordered its evacuation.
Lazzarini stated that children and youth in East Jerusalem are being deprived of their right to education in their schools.
Announcing that Israeli forces and Jerusalem Municipality personnel forcibly entered the UNRWA Kalandia Educational Center and ordered its evacuation, Lazzarini said: "Today's events affected 250 children studying in three UNRWA schools in East Jerusalem and more than 350 students at the UN-affiliated Kalandia Educational Center."
Lazzarini emphasized that these incidents constitute a violation of the fundamental right to education, as well as the privileges and immunities of the United Nations, stating: "Children’s access to education must be ensured, and UN facilities must always be protected and respected wherever they are."
