Lazzarini: UNRWA is the primary humanitarian actor in Palestine
New York, 12 December (Hibya) – UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said that the agency is the primary humanitarian actor in the occupied Palestinian territories and that everything must be done to facilitate its work.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Lazzarini stated that the United Nations General Assembly strongly supported the International Court of Justice’s decision that allegations of Hamas infiltration into UNRWA are unfounded and that accusations regarding the agency’s lack of neutrality are also without basis.
Saying that this vote is an important indicator of the overwhelming majority of the international community’s trust in UNRWA, Lazzarini added: “As emphasized by the International Court of Justice, UNRWA is the primary humanitarian actor in the occupied Palestinian territories, and everything must be done to facilitate our work, not to obstruct it.”
Lazzarini called on member states to continue supporting efforts to respond to the severe humanitarian conditions in Gaza, as well as initiatives to expand critical public health and education services.
