EU Commission President von der Leyen said she was deeply shocked by the tragic attack that took place at Bondi Beach.

Expressing her sincerest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives, von der Leyen said: “Europe stands with the Jewish communities in Australia and around the world. We are united against violence, antisemitism and hatred.”

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and European Commission Vice President Kaja Kallas stated that the disturbing images from the armed attack that occurred during Hanukkah celebrations in the Bondi Beach area of Australia had horrified her.

Emphasizing that this heinous act of violence targeting the Jewish community must be condemned in the strongest terms without any hesitation, Kallas said:

“My thoughts are with everyone affected by the attack, with their families and with the courageous first responders on duty. Australia is one of Europe’s closest friends. We stand in full solidarity with the Australian people.”
