Minister Shaheen calls on New Zealand to recognize the State of Palestine
Ramallah, February 5 (Hibya) - The Palestinian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Farsin Aghabakian Shaheen, met with New Zealand's non-resident representative to Palestine, Ambassador Amy Lawrenson, and Senior Advisor for the Bilateral Relations Sector for Asia, Africa, and the Pacific, Rana Abu Hakima.
During the meeting, developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, ongoing violations of international law by the occupation, and the worsening humanitarian crisis were discussed.
Minister Shaheen emphasized the necessity for New Zealand to recognize the State of Palestine as a fundamental step in preserving the two-state solution principle and achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
Shaheen also appreciated New Zealand's supportive and consistent stance on the Palestinian cause, its positive voting record in international forums, its humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, and its firm commitment to continuing funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA).
The minister stressed the importance of ensuring, sustaining, and protecting the ceasefire after 15 months of devastating war against the people of Gaza, adding that the Palestinian government has begun providing emergency aid and rebuilding infrastructure in Gaza.
