Netanyahu's main rival calls for early elections in September
Stockholm, April 4 (Hibya) - As Netanyahu's popularity continues to wane amid the ongoing war in Gaza, Gantz said the government "must set a compromise date for September.
Israeli minister Benny Gantz, a member of the war cabinet and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's main rival, has called for early parliamentary elections in September as pressure mounts over the war in Gaza.
Speaking from his office in the Israeli parliament on Wednesday, Gantz said, "We must set a compromise date for September or, if you prefer, for the first anniversary of the war."
Netanyahu has been facing pressure from various sides in recent weeks, especially since Saturday, when thousands of demonstrators gathered to demand the prime minister's removal.
They include protests demanding increased efforts to free hostages taken in Hamas' October 7 offensive in Gaza that started the war.
