While it was not clear what caused the explosion in the first place, the Israeli army confirmed that a drone had exploded.

 However, the army's statement did not specify where the drone originated. No anti-aircraft sirens were sounded before the explosion.

Police said police and a bomb disposal squad were at the scene. The army also announced plans to increase patrols by fighter jets to defend Israel's airspace.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia's Al Arabiya news agency reported that Yemen's Houthis launched a missile and four drones at Israel last night. The US military shot down the missile and three drones.
