Deniz polisinden Adalar çevresinde 'deniz taksi' denetimi

The tension between the Southeast Asian neighbors has lasted for months, partly due to the disputed sections of the 800-kilometer land border drawn by Cambodia's former colonial power France, claimed by both countries, passing near many archaeologically significant religious sites.

The Thai army reported clashes at two points in Ubon Ratchathani province and one point in Surin province, warning people to stay away from those areas. Heavy weaponry and rocket fire were reported coming from Cambodia.

Thursday’s clashes involved light weapons and rockets between Thailand, a treaty ally of the US, and its small neighbor Cambodia.

Thailand later scrambled its F-16 jets and bombed military targets inside Cambodia.

Both countries have close ties with China, which, along with the US, has called for a reduction in tensions.

According to Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health, at least 14 people, mostly civilians, have died in Thailand so far.

In Cambodia, the spokesperson for Oddar Meanchey province, which borders Thailand’s Buri Ram, Surin, and Si Saket provinces, said at least one person has died and five were injured. He added that tensions remain "high" as of Friday morning.

“The clashes... are still ongoing,” he said.
