Passenger Plane Collides with Military Helicopter Near Reagan Airport
Washington, January 30 (Hibya) - According to the Federal Aviation Administration and defense officials, a passenger plane approaching the runway near Ronald Reagan National Airport, just outside Washington, D.C., collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, there are no confirmed casualties at this time.
Flight officials stated that the aircraft was American Airlines flight number 5342, which departed from Wichita, Kansas. The White House confirmed that a military helicopter was involved in the incident.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News: "I contacted my colleagues at the White House, and I can confirm that President Trump has been informed of the situation."
All takeoffs and landings at Reagan National Airport have been halted, and emergency personnel are responding to the incident. The terminal remains open.
American Airlines stated: "We are aware of reports that American Eagle flight number 5342, operated by PSA from Wichita (ICT) to Washington Reagan National Airport (DCA), was involved in an incident. We will provide further updates as they become available."
According to information obtained from American Airlines by CNN, there were 60 passengers and 4 crew members on board the aircraft.
