German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that two-time Olympic champion Ronald Rauhe has been appointed Minister of State for Sport and Volunteering.

In a statement on his social media account, Merz said that success requires strength and passion, noting that Rauhe is very familiar with these qualities.

Former German canoeist Ronald Rauhe will be responsible for high-performance sport, grassroots sport and volunteering in Germany in his new role.

Merz stated that Rauhe has significant experience in both elite sport and volunteering.

German Chancellor Merz addressed Rauhe in his message with the words, “Welcome to the team.”
