Russia increases cooperation with the Taliban regime in Afghanistan
Moscow, November 26 (Hibya) - According to reports in Russian media, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu stated to Afghanistan's Deputy Prime Minister Mohammed Abdul Kabir that Russia intends to enhance bilateral cooperation with Afghanistan in various fields.
Shoigu visited Afghanistan on Monday and met with the country’s top officials. During four rounds of meetings with deputy prime ministers and ministers, issues related to economy, transportation, and security were discussed.
Shoigu said, “We intend to develop bilateral cooperation between Russia and Afghanistan in many areas. We reaffirm our readiness to establish a constructive political dialogue between our countries, including accelerating the internal resolution process in Afghanistan.”
According to Shoigu, the Russian side believes that the establishment of a stable and independent Afghanistan is in the interest of all states in the region. He emphasized that Russia will continue to support Kabul’s integration into regional structures and unions.
The senior security official added, “This step will not only allow effective dialogue on issues such as combating security challenges and threats like terrorism and drug trafficking but also intensify trade and economic cooperation.”
Meanwhile, a draft law to lift the ban on the Taliban in Russia has been submitted to the State Duma.
