Russia proposes holding second round of talks with Ukraine in Istanbul
Moscow, May 28 (Hibya) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has proposed that the second round of Russia-Ukraine talks, led by the delegation headed by Vladimir Medinskiy, be held in Istanbul on Monday, June 2.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made a statement regarding the second round of Russia-Ukraine negotiations.
Lavrov stated that with the support of the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye, a foundation had been laid for the resumption of direct Russia-Ukraine negotiations. “The first round was held in Istanbul on May 16. As per the agreements, the two sides exchanged 1,000 prisoners of war. Furthermore, Moscow and Kyiv agreed in Istanbul to prepare documents reflecting each side’s position toward a lasting solution.”
Lavrov announced that the Russian side had prepared a memorandum containing its views on reliably overcoming the root causes of the crisis. “Our delegation, led by Vladimir Medinskiy, is ready to present this memorandum to the Ukrainian delegation and provide the necessary explanations. This will take place during the second round of direct negotiations on Monday, June 2, in Istanbul,” he proposed.
Lavrov expressed hope that all parties genuinely interested in the success of the peace process, and not merely issuing political statements, would support the new round of direct Russia-Ukraine talks to be held in Istanbul.
