Russia: UK presses Brussels to seize frozen Russian funds
Moscow, December 16 (Hibya) – Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) claimed in a written statement today that “senior British officials in contact with the EU are desperately pressuring Brussels to steal Russian funds frozen at the Euroclear depository in Belgium.”
According to the SVR, “the British hope that if this money does not reach Washington, the White House will lose interest in implementing the ‘damaged deal’ with Moscow. Then it will be safe to use Kyiv against Russia ‘until the last Ukrainian.’”
The statement said that senior British officials have provided European bureaucrats in Brussels with false information suggesting that Donald Trump is seeking a rapprochement with Moscow for financial gain. “They claim that Russia has promised the White House to use its sovereign assets, currently stuck in Europe, for joint projects, and argue that this is a significant incentive for Trump to advance the Ukraine peace initiative agreed with Russia.”
The statement also noted: “It was agreed that London, Paris and Berlin would inform Washington that they are ready to initiate a shift toward Beijing if the United States continues to impose an Ukraine agreement unacceptable to Europeans.”
