Rutte: I am not worried about the outcome of the US presidential election
Brussels, October 1 (Hibya)—NATO's new Secretary General Mark Rutte said he was not worried about the outcome of the upcoming US presidential elections, that he knows both candidates very well, and that he is ready to work with both.
Today, the procedure for the handover of the powers of the North Atlantic Alliance Secretary General from Jens Stoltenberg to Mark Rutte is taking place at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
"I am not worried about the election results; I know both candidates very well... I am ready to work with them; we will see what happens," Rutte said.
Regarding the Ukraine crisis, Rutte said: "Our priorities are the same. We must ensure that Ukraine remains an independent, democratic state. We must spend more on defence and deterrence and develop our collective defence capabilities."
Mark Rutte also said that developing NATO partnerships in different parts of the world "to ensure security" would be a priority.
