Rutte: I am not worried about the outcome of the US presidential election
Brussels, October 1 (Hibya) - NATO’s new Secretary General, Mark Rutte, said that he is not worried about the results of the upcoming US presidential election, as he knows both candidates well and is ready to work with either of them.
Today, the procedure for transferring the powers of the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance from Jens Stoltenberg to Mark Rutte is taking place at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
Rutte said: "I am not worried about the election results, I know both candidates very well... I am ready to work with either of them, and we’ll see what happens".
On the Ukraine crisis, Rutte noted: "Our priorities remain the same. We must ensure that Ukraine remains an independent, democratic state. We need to spend more on defense and deterrence and strengthen our collective defense capabilities".
Mark Rutte also said that one of his priorities would be developing NATO partnerships around the world to ensure security.
