Israeli Foreign Minister Saar said that he held a phone call with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and conveyed to her, on behalf of Israel, the deep pain and sorrow felt over the attack that occurred in Sydney.

Stating that there has been a significant increase in antisemitism in Australia since October 7, with calls for violence and incitement against Israel and Jews spreading across digital and public spaces, Saar said:

“I also emphasized that the security of the Jewish community in Australia can only be ensured through a real and tangible change in the public atmosphere. I stated that the Australian government must take determined and strong steps against the use of such antisemitic rhetoric.”
