Tajani: We want a strong Europe that truly has a say in the world
Rome, October 13 (Hibya) - Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said the European Union should become a stronger actor on the international stage, calling for joint action to achieve lasting peace in Ukraine, strengthen security in the Mediterranean and combat illegal migration.
Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani emphasized the need to strengthen the European Union's role on the international stage in a speech at the European People's Party (EPP) working days held in Taormina, Italy.
Tajani said making Europe stronger and more united should be a priority goal, stating: "From the pursuit of a just and lasting peace in Ukraine to security in the Mediterranean, strengthening Europe's Aspides mission is essential to protect freedom of navigation and counter Houthi attacks."
Tajani said Europe should also act together against human smugglers and illegal migration, noting that the European Union needs reforms to increase its decision-making capacity and overcome veto obstacles. In this context, he said the competitiveness of European companies should be supported.
Citing the Mercosur agreement as a successful example to follow, Tajani said: "We want a strong Europe that can protect its citizens, support its companies and truly have a say in the world."
