The Vatican to Livestream Saint Peter's Tomb via Webcam
Vatican City, December 2 (Hibya) – The Vatican will install a webcam at Saint Peter's Tomb in preparation for next year's Catholic Jubilee. Pope Francis will launch the livestream as part of efforts to connect with believers worldwide during the Holy Year.
The Vatican embraces technology to connect with Catholics in remote areas during the Holy Year. The livestream of Saint Peter's Tomb is expected to attract 33 million pilgrims to Rome.
Pope Francis will launch the webcam installed over the apostle's tomb beneath the main altar of Saint Peter's Basilica on Monday.
A webcam will also be installed on the basilica's massive bronze Holy Door, which Francis will open on December 24 to officially mark the start of the 2025 Jubilee, inviting Catholics worldwide to reconnect with their faith.
The opening of the door, which remains sealed with bricks between Jubilee Years, will be particularly moving for pilgrims as passing through it is believed to grant full absolution of sins. The Vatican stated that the webcam will provide "symbolic" access for those unable to travel to Rome.
