Trump referred to the historical roots of US-China relations during his speech in Beijing. Trump stated that contacts between the peoples of the two countries date back to the founding years of the United States.

The main points of Trump’s speech were as follows:

“The friendship between the people of the United States and the people of China dates back to the founding of America, and the first American envoy to China and our first mission to reach these shores arrived in this region in 1784, and they referred to us as new people. And 250 years later, I can say that the relationship between the two countries has become one of the most important in world history. From the very beginning, our citizens have felt a mutual sense of respect, especially toward our founders Benjamin Franklin and Confucius. In the same way, the presence of sculptures by modern Chinese artists in the US Supreme Court is also a great source of pride. Both sides, of course, have great respect and admiration for each other. Naturally, a stone tablet gifted by George Washington and the words of a Chinese official describing Washington as a great statesman and a hero have also been recorded in history.”
