UN Secretary-General Guterres holds commemoration and honor ceremony
New York, June 5 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres laid a wreath in honor of UN Peacekeeping, which has served for nearly 80 years. He also posthumously awarded the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal to 68 peacekeepers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres laid a wreath during a ceremony held in memory of approximately 4,500 personnel who have lost their lives while serving since the establishment of UN Peacekeeping.
Guterres also posthumously awarded the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal to 68 peacekeepers who died in peace operations, emphasizing that they were “the very best of humanity, risking their lives for the safety of others.”
