In a statement, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) warned that without immediate measures, plastic waste could triple by the year 2060.
It was noted that work is ongoing in Geneva to finalize a Global Plastic Treaty, with negotiations aimed at producing a legally binding agreement that addresses threats to health, oceans, and economies.
