University of Amsterdam closed after Gaza protests
Amsterdam, May 15 (Hibya) - The University of Amsterdam has closed for two days following violent protests against the war in Gaza.
“The University of Amsterdam has chosen to cancel all classes on Monday and to close all university buildings on Tuesday and Wednesday,” the university announced on its website.
According to the university, this is because the safety of students and staff can no longer be guaranteed after a “peaceful demonstration” against the war in Gaza on Monday was “hijacked” by people unrelated to the university.
The statement reads: “Several buildings were occupied by masked individuals dressed in black. They barricaded entrances and exits, creating an unsafe situation for everyone in the area.
