Speaking to Fox News, Machado said, “In fact, I met President Trump on October 10, the day the Nobel Peace Prize was announced, but we have not met since then.” Seen as Maduro’s most credible rival, Machado left Venezuela last month to travel to Norway to receive the prize and has not returned since.

Asked by Fox about her plans to return to Venezuela, Machado said, “I plan to return home as soon as possible.”

On Saturday, Trump rejected the idea of working with Machado, saying, “She has no support or respect within the country.”

US media reported on Monday that a classified CIA assessment presented to Trump concluded that senior figures loyal to Maduro, including interim president Delcy Rodríguez, are best positioned to maintain stability.

Despite this, Machado described the US steps as “a major step for humanity, freedom and human dignity.”
