Volker Türk: Sexual violence in conflicts is one of the most horrific and devastating crimes
New York, June 19 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk announced that documented cases of sexual violence in conflict zones have more than doubled over the past year.
Referring to the escalating human rights violations in conflicts and newly released UN data, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk stated that victims must be protected and justice must be ensured.
Highlighting the devastating impact of sexual violence, Türk said: "Sexual violence in conflicts is one of the most horrific and devastating crimes. New UN data shows that documented cases more than doubled between 2024 and 2025."
Emphasizing the need to enforce international law and ensure accountability, Türk stated: "Governments and parties to conflicts must put an end to these violations of international law and support victims in their pursuit of justice."
