Von der Leyen: We feel renewed momentum for resolving the Cyprus issue
Brussels, July 12 (Hibya) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said following her discussion with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that renewed momentum is being felt toward resolving the Cyprus issue.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made a statement regarding her telephone conversation with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Von der Leyen said, "We feel renewed momentum toward resolving the Cyprus issue within the framework of the United Nations and in line with the principles, values and legislation of the European Union. This opportunity should be seized. We expect progress in the coming months."
Von der Leyen added, "The Commission stands ready to support this effort with all the support and tools at its disposal. Tomorrow, we will appoint our Special Representative for Cyprus with the expectation of a more active engagement in the process."
