WHO: Death toll rising in Gaza due to hunger and disease
Geneva, August 8 (Hibya) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that the humanitarian situation in Gaza has reached a critical level, noting that people are dying not only from hunger and disease but also while searching for food.
Ghebreyesus emphasized the need to lift blockades hindering aid entry and called for the delivery of vital humanitarian assistance in larger volumes. He stressed that this aid is crucial for rebuilding the health system and replenishing essential supplies.
In his statement, Ghebreyesus also called for the protection of healthcare workers, the release of all hostages, an immediate ceasefire, and steps toward lasting peace.
