Widespread fires in northern Israel after Hezbollah attacks
Stockholm, June 4 (Hibya) - Widespread fires broke out in northern Israel following Hezbollah attacks.
The fires were started by rockets fired from Lebanon, where the militant group Hezbollah is waging war against Israel, Haaretz reported. The fire spread quickly due to the hot and dry weather in the area.
The Israeli Fire and Rescue Service said that after nine hours of effort, firefighters managed to contain the fire, which spread near Amiad in northern Israel.
In addition to teams from the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, the Jewish National Fund, the IDF and the police, a total of 18 teams from northern and central Israel are responding to the fire, which was caused by Hezbollah rockets fired into Israel from Lebanon. Four firefighting aircraft were also used to extinguish the area with flame-retardant material.
According to Boris Eisenberg, chief of the Tiberian forest station, the fire has burned about 1,000 dunams of land.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Israeli army announced that six reservists deployed to help fight the fires were being treated for mild smoke inhalation. Meanwhile, Rebecca Sieff Hospital in Safed said five civilians were treated for mild smoke inhalation.
