Yeditepe University hosted a meaningful event marking the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Türkiye and China. The 5th Chinese Karaoke and Poetry Recitation Competition for Turkish University Students took place in an enthusiastic atmosphere, showcasing young people's interest in the Chinese language and culture.
More than 40 students from 10 universities competed
The event brought together more than 40 students from 10 universities across Türkiye. In addition to Yeditepe University, students from prestigious institutions such as Middle East Technical University (METU), Boğaziçi University, Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, Erciyes University and Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University took part in the competition.
Contestants demonstrated the depth of the Chinese language by reciting classical Chinese poems and reflected the appeal of Chinese music through their karaoke performances.
"Strengthening the bridge of friendship"
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Wang Teng, Deputy Consul General of China in Istanbul, emphasized the importance of this traditional event organized by the Confucius Institute at Yeditepe University. The event aims to increase Turkish university students' enthusiasm for learning Chinese and strengthen the bridge of friendship between the two countries.
The first-place winner noted that interest in Chinese culture in Türkiye continues to grow and said, "It is inspiring to see so many people learning Chinese and performing here. It makes me proud."
Meticulous judging and impressive performances
The contestants' performances were evaluated by an expert jury on a 100-point scale based on the following four criteria:
- Content (15 Points): Positive and artistic value of the song or poem.
- Pronunciation and Rhythm (40 Points): Clarity of Chinese pronunciation and accuracy of tones.
- Stage Performance (30 Points): Expressiveness and stage presence.
- Appearance (15 Points): Appropriateness of attire and natural presentation.
Cultural ambassadors of the future
At the end of the event, successful students received first, second, third and honorable mention awards, as well as the "Best Institution" award. Organizers noted that such events not only help young people improve their language skills but also deepen cultural interaction between the two ancient civilizations.
