Ahmadinejad registers as candidate for President
Stockholm, June 2 (Hibya) - Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad today registered his candidacy for the June 28 presidential elections, as conservatives and hardliners joined the race, Iranian media reported.
The controversial politician, largely sidelined by the regime's ruling core for nearly a decade, arrived at the Interior Ministry to officially present his credentials and register for the election.
“Today, I have come once again to greet the Iranian people,” he said as he registered as a candidate.
“The challenges we face today in every field are much greater than those of 2013,” the former president said, adding that economic woes have exhausted the people's patience.
