Albares: The situation in Sudan is unsustainable
Madrid, December 26 (Hibya) – Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares called for a ceasefire, stating that the war ongoing for two years in Sudan has displaced millions of people and claimed the lives of more than 150,000.
Spanish Foreign Minister Albares made statements regarding the situation in Sudan, saying: “The situation in Sudan is unsustainable. Two years of war have led to the displacement of millions of people and the death of more than 150,000.”
Emphasizing that there are continuous and severe human rights violations, Albares drew particular attention to the capture of the city of El Fasher last October. He said: “Spain demands the declaration of a ceasefire and the protection of civilians. Compliance with international humanitarian law is mandatory.”
Albares noted that Spain will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Sudan through AECID and will continue to support all peace efforts.
