An agreement has been reached for the release of Palestinian prisoners
Stockholm, February 26 (Hibya) - Negotiators have stated that an agreement has been reached for the release of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel, whose release was delayed last week.
The Hamas movement in Gaza announced that an agreement had been reached for the release of Palestinians imprisoned in Israel. This was also confirmed by Egyptian, Qatari, and US negotiators.
Following Hamas’s release of six hostages, the release of more than 600 Palestinians was planned last week. The Israeli Prime Minister described Hamas’s hostage-taking practices as humiliating and stated that the release decision would be postponed until Hamas ended these practices.
In response, Hamas stated that no further discussions regarding the continuation of the ceasefire would take place until the Palestinians were released.
Yesterday, Hamas announced that an agreement had been reached to release the hostages who were supposed to be freed in exchange for the transfer of the bodies of four hostages killed last week to Israel. The negotiators did not specify when this would take place, and the Israeli government did not confirm it.
An American diplomat stated that an Israeli delegation had traveled to Qatar or Egypt for negotiations regarding the second phase of the ceasefire. According to the ceasefire agreement, the second phase is scheduled to begin on March 1, but discussions on this matter have not yet gained momentum.
