Armenia Approves Draft Law to Start EU Membership Process
Yerevan, January 9 (Hibya) - The Armenian government approved a draft law on Thursday during a meeting regarding the republic's accession to the European Union.
The approved document states that "Armenia announces the beginning of the process of joining the European Union."
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during a government meeting that the decision for the country's accession to the EU can only be made through a national referendum.
Pashinyan said, "At this stage, we need to discuss a roadmap with the EU, develop this map before deciding to hold a referendum."
