Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baqaei said the United States' foreign policy system toward Iran and the region has become detached from reality and is built entirely on lies, offering an assessment of the current state of the Washington administration.

Describing the state of the US system through a literary analogy, Baqaei said, "This passage from Dostoevsky's 'The Brothers Karamazov' very aptly describes the situation in which the US system of governance and foreign policy toward Iran and the region finds itself due to its excessive reliance on 'lies'."

Spokesperson Baqaei concluded his statement with a quotation from the classic work of literary history: "A person who lies to himself and listens to his own lie eventually becomes unable to distinguish the truth within himself or around him, and thus loses respect for himself and for others."
