Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei commemorated Hossein Monzavi, a contemporary ghazal poet and one of the leading figures of the modern Persian ghazal, on his birthday.

In a post on his social media account, Baqaei said that the concepts of love and homeland are inseparable in Monzavi's poetry.

Baqaei said that in Monzavi's works, Iran is portrayed not merely as a geography but as a unity of soul and body, adding that the poet expressed his love for his country through his poems.

Baqaei also included lines by Monzavi about Iran in his post. Noting that Iran is depicted in the poem through the scent of rain and the fragrance of the ghazal, Baqaei said that the poetry of Hafez and Saadi also continues to live on in Monzavi's works.

The post also included lines by Monzavi beginning with the words “My Iran, my Iran.”
