Canada and three other countries react to postponement of Palestinian elections
Canada, Australia, France and the United Kingdom expressed their disappointment over the postponement of Palestinian elections until September 2027. The countries called on the Palestinian Authority to take the necessary steps to hold legislative and presidential elections without further delay.
Canada, Australia, France and the United Kingdom announced their joint position regarding the postponement of Palestinian elections until September 2027.
In a post on social media, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand stated that the four countries were deeply disappointed by the postponement of the elections.
Noting that elections for the Palestinian Legislative Council were last held nearly 20 years ago, Anand said that this situation had deprived an entire generation of the opportunity to elect its own representatives.
Anand called on the Palestinian Authority to reconsider its decision and take the necessary steps to ensure that legislative and presidential elections are held without further delay.
