Canada will provide more than $2 million in humanitarian assistance to support people in Colombia following the August 10 earthquake, which caused loss of life as well as widespread damage to homes, infrastructure and communities.

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said in a statement on her social media account that her country stands in solidarity with the people of Colombia following the earthquake disaster.

Anand said Canada will contribute to the on-the-ground work of trusted partner organizations to support those affected by the earthquake.

The more than $2 million in humanitarian assistance is intended to help deliver emergency food assistance, shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene services, as well as other life-saving support to earthquake victims.

Anand said the earthquake had caused “tragic loss of life and widespread damage to homes, infrastructure and communities,” expressing solidarity with those affected by the disaster.

Canada will reportedly not only provide financial assistance but will also continue to support relief efforts being carried out in the region.

Anand said Canada “remains committed to supporting relief efforts and helping communities respond to this crisis.”
