Florida, November 7 (Hibya) – The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has established a new task force of approximately 20 personnel to prevent Iran from transporting advanced weapons and sanctioned materials via land routes.
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has established a new task force of approximately 20 personnel to prevent Iran from transporting advanced weapons and sanctioned materials via land routes.
Established on November 7 under the direction of CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper, Task Force Iron Gate will operate in Tampa, Florida.
The task force will coordinate with other US agencies to prevent the transportation of advanced weapons systems, dual-use technologies, sanctioned materials and illicit revenues across Iran's land borders and through the Caspian Sea. Cooper stated that the initiative aims to restrict Iran's ability to finance terrorism, rebuild weapons factories and restore its military capabilities.
In its statement, CENTCOM claimed that the US naval blockade had prevented Iran from exporting more than $25 billion worth of crude oil in recent months. It was also reported that inspections of vessels entering and leaving Iranian ports are continuing.
