China to allow Russians visa-free travel during one-year trial period
Moscow, September 4 (Hibya) — A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that during a one-year trial period beginning later this month, Russian citizens will be allowed to travel visa-free in China for up to 30 days.
Spokesperson Guo Jiakun told reporters: “From September 15, 2025 to September 14, 2026, a visa-free trial policy will apply to Russian citizens holding ordinary passports.” He added that Russians will be able to enter China without a visa for business, tourism, family visits, or educational exchanges.
The Russian Tour Operators Association said the relaxed rules could increase Russian tourism to China by up to 40%. According to Russia’s border services, over 1 million Russians traveled to China in the first half of 2025. This was nearly a one-third increase from the previous year, making China the fifth most-visited destination.
China expanded its visa-free entry policy to 75 countries after lifting Covid-19 restrictions and reopening its borders in 2023.
