According to CCTV, the number of confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has risen to 3,200.

Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said at a press conference at UN Headquarters that the Ebola outbreak continues to spread and that the increasing numbers of infections and deaths are placing greater pressure on healthcare services.

Haq stated, "As of July 25, national health authorities had reported a total of 3,200 confirmed Ebola cases in the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, Haut-Uele, and Tshopo. For the second consecutive day, more than 100 new confirmed cases were reported."

He added that the UN and its partners are supporting surveillance, contact tracing, laboratory testing, and patient care. The World Food Programme (WFP) has provided more than 140,000 hot meals and food assistance to over 23,000 patients, contacts, and vulnerable people in Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu.

It was also noted that UNICEF and its partners have conducted more than 27,000 household visits in the affected areas to identify and monitor suspected cases.

According to the latest situation report published by the DRC health authorities on Sunday, the death toll has risen to 1,405.

The current Ebola outbreak, declared on May 15, was reported to be caused by the Bundibugyo virus and began in Ituri Province in the country's northeast before spreading to five provinces.
