Costa: Europe stands unwavering in its support for Ukraine
Brussels, April 23 (Hibya) – European Council President Antonio Costa made a statement regarding the European Union’s (EU) new financial support package for Ukraine and additional sanctions imposed on Russia.
European Council President Antonio Costa stated that the EU’s strategy on Ukraine is being pursued with determination and shared details of steps taken in both the military and economic spheres.
Summarizing the EU’s approach to Ukraine, Costa said, “Promised, delivered, implemented. The EU’s strategy to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine is based on two main pillars: strengthening Ukraine; increasing pressure on Russia. Today, we have made progress on both.”
Referring to the financial dimension of the support and new sanctions, Costa stated, “By unlocking a €90 billion loan for Ukraine, we have secured financial and military support for 2026–2027. In addition, by adopting the 20th sanctions package against Russia, we have reduced its capacity to wage war.”
Reiterating Europe’s unity, Costa concluded, “Europe stands firm, united, and unwavering in its support for Ukraine.”
