Costa: Libya-Türkiye memorandum is invalid
Brussels, October 20 (Hibya) - European Council President Antonio Costa expressed regret over the Libyan Parliament's approval of the memorandum with Türkiye on the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction areas, arguing that the agreement is invalid.
European Council President Antonio Costa reacted to the Libyan Parliament's approval of the memorandum with Türkiye concerning the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction areas in the Mediterranean Sea.
Costa stated that the European Union's (EU) position on the matter had been clearly established by the European Council in 2019 and remained unchanged.
Costa argued that the memorandum violated the sovereign rights of third countries and was incompatible with the law of the sea, declaring that the agreement was invalid.
Costa reiterated solidarity with Greece and the Republic of Cyprus, noting that the EU maintained its established position against foreign interference in Libya.
