Crosetto: Security forces deployed during demonstrations acted professionally
Rome, October 24 (Hibya) - Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto highlighted the work of security forces deployed during demonstrations in several cities, particularly Milan, Turin, Rome and Bologna, and thanked personnel responsible for maintaining public order and protecting the right to demonstrate.
Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto stated on social media that demonstrations attended by thousands of people in Milan, Turin, Rome, Bologna and other cities had been managed with great professionalism by security forces.
Crosetto said that officers on duty had faced attacks, insults and criticism, but had nevertheless remained at their posts and maintained public order.
Crosetto noted that security forces were responsible not only for protecting the right to demonstrate peacefully but also for safeguarding the freedom of those who did not wish to protest, as well as private property and public assets.
Emphasizing that security personnel, like everyone else, were people with families, Crosetto said they reported for duty to perform difficult, demanding and risky work despite their families' concerns. Stating that their pay was not proportionate to the difficulties and risks involved in their work, Crosetto expressed his respect and gratitude to the security forces.
Crosetto also criticized those who supported criminals confronting security forces in the course of their duties or who insulted officers.
