Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, who was elected by consensus as Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

According to the ministry's statement, Dar congratulated Ahmed on his election and highlighted the special importance Pakistan attaches to the OIC. Dar expressed confidence that Ahmed would make a significant contribution to advancing the interests of the Muslim community and addressing issues of common concern, including Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir.

Ahmed, for his part, thanked Pakistan for supporting his candidacy and highlighted Pakistan's important role within the OIC. Ahmed praised the efforts of Pakistan's Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dar, and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in bringing the Iran conflict to an end.

The call also addressed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement signed between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. Ahmed highlighted the importance of the agreement for regional peace and security.

The two sides agreed to continue working closely and coordinating in order to further strengthen the OIC's role in serving the Muslim community.
