Dutch Prime Minister Schoof Resigns
Amsterdam, June 3 (Hibya) – Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof has submitted his resignation to King Willem-Alexander after the Freedom Party (PVV) withdrew from the coalition.
Schoof stated that the cabinet had worked intensively in recent months to implement the Government Program, but if one party does not wish to continue, it is not possible to proceed together.
He noted that they had discussed the situation in the Council of Ministers and concluded that with the PVV’s departure, there was no longer sufficient support in the House of Representatives for this cabinet.
“This means I will now go directly to the King to submit the resignation of the PVV ministers. The other ministers will temporarily continue their duties. We are facing major challenges at both national and international levels, and more determination than ever is needed — for our security, resilience, and our economy in a rapidly changing world,” said Schoof.
Schoof added that he had submitted the PVV ministers' resignations to King Willem-Alexander and informed him that the other ministers — himself included — are ready to step down as well. “We will continue to perform our duties as a caretaker government,” he said.
