EU takes new step in combating child sexual abuse and exploitation
Brussels, June 22 (Hibya) - The Council of the European Union (EU) announced that it has reached a provisional agreement with the European Parliament on new rules aimed at strengthening the fight against child sexual abuse and sexual exploitation.
In a statement, the EU Council said that the new rules would cover a broader range of crimes, impose tougher penalties, and improve support mechanisms for victims. The regulations are intended to strengthen the legal framework for the protection of children.
It was noted that the new measures would expand the list of covered offenses, introduce harsher sanctions, and enhance support for victims. The regulations, which have been provisionally agreed upon by EU institutions, are expected to enter into force once the legislative process is completed.
