Guterres: Human rights violations are a clear sign of indifference to suffering
New York, 10 December (Hibya) – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed that human rights are inalienable and indivisible, stating that the serious violations witnessed in recent years are a clear sign of indifference to human suffering.
In his statement, UN Secretary-General Guterres underlined the universality and holistic nature of human rights. Using the phrase “Human rights are inalienable, indivisible and interconnected,” he emphasized that these rights form a single fundamental whole.
Drawing attention to the increase in rights violations around the world in recent years, Guterres said: “The serious violations we are seeing point to a blatant disregard for rights and a clear indifference to suffering.”
Guterres stressed that the international community has the power to combat these injustices and issued a call for joint action with the words: “Together, we have the power to confront these injustices.”
