Guterres stated that housing is a fundamental element in combating inequality and accelerating sustainable development.

Emphasizing that more than 3 billion people worldwide lack access to adequate housing, Guterres called for urgent global action to address the housing crisis.

Guterres stated that everyone should have a safe and suitable place to live that they can call "home" and urged city authorities around the world to invest in projects providing adequate housing for all.
