Guterres on Sudan: This nightmare must end
New York, April 15 (Hibya) – United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for an immediate halt to the fighting in Sudan and the launch of a civilian-led political process as the war enters its third year.
UN Secretary-General Guterres, in a statement marking the third year of the war in Sudan, highlighted the depth of the humanitarian crisis in the country.
Guterres stated that approximately 34 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance and that more than 4.5 million have been forced to flee the country.
Describing the situation in Sudan as a “nightmare,” Guterres stressed that the fighting must stop immediately.
He also called for the establishment of a credible roadmap for a transition to an inclusive, civilian-led political process that reflects the expectations of the Sudanese people.
