Guterres: Violence is a persistent and widespread problem on a global scale
New York, September 4 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for action to combat violence against women and girls and for investment in local women’s organizations.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized that ending violence against women, which has become a global crisis, is a fundamental requirement for sustainable development and human rights.
Highlighting the global scale of the problem, Guterres said, “Violence against women and girls is a persistent and widespread problem on a global scale.”
Referring to the importance of addressing the issue for human rights and development, Guterres said, “Ending this crisis is essential for sustainable development and human rights.”
Guterres concluded his statement with the call: “Let us invest in women’s organizations that provide proven, locally based solutions and build a safe and dignified world for everyone.”
