Iran criticizes Macron over protests and his policy toward Iran
Tehran, October 18 (Hibya) - Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei criticized French President Emmanuel Macron by comparing his stance on protests in Iran with his response to events in France. Baghaei also raised the issue of Macron's support for US policy toward Iran.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei criticized French President Emmanuel Macron's stance on protests and attacks against public institutions.
In a social media post, Baghaei claimed that in January Macron had argued that people who attacked security forces and public institutions in Iran should be able to demonstrate peacefully without fear of punishment. Baghaei noted that, in response to events in France, Macron had declared that attacks on public institutions were unacceptable and that those responsible would be swiftly punished, arguing that the two positions were contradictory.
Baghaei also recalled the phrase "We can do great things on Iran" from a message Macron sent to the US president before the attacks on Iran, accusing the French president of supporting the attacks against Iran and developments in the region.
Commenting on the consequences of regional crises and international alliances, Baghaei stated that countries could face the consequences of their own policies. He concluded his remarks with words attributed to Jean de La Fontaine suggesting that a trap may turn against the person who set it and that betrayal may come back to its perpetrator.
