Iran reacts to the U.S. attack on Venezuela
Tehran, January 3 (Hibya) – Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the U.S. military attack on Venezuela violates the United Nations Charter and called on the international community to take urgent action.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran condemned the U.S. military attack on Venezuela, stating that the attack constitutes a clear violation of Venezuela’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The Ministry noted that this action contravenes Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the use or threat of force, and should be regarded as an “act of aggression,” stressing that it must be immediately and unequivocally condemned by the United Nations and all states committed to the rule of law.
The statement emphasized that the U.S. military intervention against an independent UN member state seriously undermines regional and international peace and security, and erodes the international order based on the UN Charter.
Recalling Venezuela’s right to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, Iran’s Foreign Ministry underscored that all states and international organizations—especially the United Nations and the Security Council—bear responsibility for taking action to stop the unlawful U.S. attack.
